I’m in complete balance with my bike now.The engine pushes warm air at my knees.My eyes watch closely for animals who might dart into the road.Leaning right and left then right again, I shift effortlessly through the gears to make my way to the to the peak of Mt. Wachusett.

Looking through binoculars on the mountain top, I think I see Boston’s Prudential Center almost 50 miles away.The wind is blowing steadily here and it’s cold looking down over the white caps on Wachusett Lake. I head down the mountain to continue on my way. 

Heading west on Rte 2, I decide to change to my sunglasses.At a stop for a traffic light, I can use the flip-up helmet feature to move my faceplace with one hand and change eyeglasses in a snap.Heavy gloves don’t seem to impede my ability to do this without a struggle.This is a convenience my full faced helmet doesn’t afford.

I continue with my plan to catch Rte 202 and make the ride south around Massachusetts’ largest man-made resevoir: The Quabbin. Built in the 30’s, the Quabbin was created by flooding 4 small towns.Today the Quabbin is the primary source of water in 105 cities and towns.Roads that once led to the four flooded towns can be seen running up to the water’s edge.In some ways that seems a little creepy!But seeing the Bald eagles, moose, bears, foxes, wildcats and many birds who have been given a refuge, makes the story of the evacuations of those towns less egregious.If you ride to the Quabbin in August, you’ll find a wonderful place to have a picnic and pick gorgeous high-bush blueberries!Bring your fishing rod and do some fishing in designated areas around the resevoir.

By noon, my stomach is growling as I reach Belchertown, home of fly fishing on the Swift River and Kristina’s Kafe and Bakery.Although my saddle bags contain packaged snacks for my jouney, I am always looking for the diners where the townies eat.Again, I use the flip-up helmet feature to ask a passer by where the locals eat.

When traveling in New England I make sure to pack a survival pack whenever I go out exploring.Many a story has been told of the changeable New England weather and storms that come up fast and interupt well made travel plans. I am usually prepared for bad weather or my bike breaking down.Placing just a few things in an emergency knapsack gives me some peace of mind when out on the trail.

The last leg of my ride will be for discovering the many antique shops and local craft stores along rte 9, as I head back to the city.When I finally arrive home and get off my bike, I feel a sense of accomplishment having finished a day long ride and weathered road film and mother nature. I’m tired, but I feel I have done some living today. To me, life doesn’t get any better than having a day to spend wandering on my motorcycle.

Toyota Motors has announced that they are recalling upwards of 1.53 million vehicles globally. The braking system may have a defect in it. The models impacted, based on ABC, are the Toyota Motors Highlander, Avalon and also the Lexus GS300, IS250 and IS350. There may be a defect within the master brake cylinder.
