Getting Car Insurance In The Philippines

Friday, June 27th, 2008

While I do agree that if we can afford it, we should get insured in preparation for incase something ‘bad’ or ‘unexpexted’ occurs. However, not all things are worth getting insured for.

Take for example car insurance. Its an absolute must to get a car insurance when buying a brand new car or a luxury vehicle in case of theft or serious damage.

But if you’re getting a second hand car worth less than 300k pesos I dont think that paying for that unit’s insurance is worth it.

Normally when an accident happens to your car. You take it to the ‘talyer’ to be fixed and to estimate the cost of repairs. Or you could take it to your car service station.

Depending on your chosen car insurance provider. Most car insurance company will only cover the amount in excess of 5k to 10k pesos. Which is pretty unfair and is one of my greatest gripes about paying for insurance.

For example, if your car insurance policy cover’s only damage in excess of 10k pesos. And if the cost to have your car fixed is below 10k, you dont get paid by the
insurance agency. If it cost you 12k pesos to fix, the insurance agency will only pay you the 2k pesos. You shoulder the 10k pesos aside from the yearly premiums that you pay.

Ofcourse, there are exceptions to this. If you’re livelihhod depends on your car like privately owned taxis, school and shuttle services or delivery vans for your pick up trucks like the popular mitsubishi L300 and the kia ceres. Getting an insurance will probably give you the peace of mind incase of theft. But the value of the vehicle should be taken into consideration before getting the insurance you think you might need.

Tips For Purchasing a Car – From Online Research to Test Drive

Tuesday, June 17th, 2008

Whether you’re buying a new or used car, the Internet is a good way to start. If you’re looking for a new model, you can look up the kind of car you want, the options you need, and the price of the car. If you do it right, you can walk into any dealer armed with lots of important information.

A good place to start searching is the manufacturers’ web sites to see all the cars and the available options. You can request quotes from local dealers or view the Manufacturer Suggested Retail Price (MSRP). When you know what you want, you can visit other web sites like Kelly Blue Book’s site for more pricing information.

Aside from researching the car you like, you can also use the Internet to determine your financing options and choose the right warranty for your car. Sites like E-Loan and Lending Tree offer online auto loans. Keep in mind though that warranties can be used by dealers to get more money from your bank account. You can avoid this by knowing what kind of warranty you want and how much you’re willing to pay for it.

When scouting for the perfect vehicle, don’t be blinded by emotions. This can prevent you from seeking other vehicles that may be better for your needs. An emotional display can also leave you more susceptible to a salesperson’s tactics. To determine how good a vehicle is, set emotion aside and focus on doing your homework.

Of course, the test drive remains a vital part of the car-buying process. A lot of vehicles may look good online but you can only see how well a vehicle delivers what it promises with a test drive. This is your best chance to see how a vehicle measures up to expectations and how well it suits you. If you hate surprises, never buy a car without testing it first. A 30-minute test drive can erase all doubts and tell you if the vehicle is worth it.

Buy Car Warranties Online

Saturday, June 7th, 2008

Do you buy your extended car warranty policies from your local car retailer? You may well be paying over the odds. Read on to find out how you could be making some significant savings.

Car warranties should be about reducing the financial risks involved in car ownership. By having a warranty policy in place, car owners should be able to drive their vehicles without having to worry about the costs associated with breakdowns and the resulting repairs.

The best policies will not simply cover the actual cost of repairs. Top quality car warranty policies now go considerably further.

There are a number on the market that will provide you with a replacement vehicle for the period when your own car is off the road.

This can be a vital advantage, particularly if you use your car for work or need to have it constantly available for other purposes.

Another added advantage that is now included in many of the best policies is overnight hotel accommodation. Hotel accommodation may seem like a strange thing to have included within the policy but it really comes into its own if your vehicles breaks down some distance from home.

Many of us like the sound of all of these advantages but are considerably less keen on the associated price tag.

This is often because we have become used to paying the prices that car warranties are sold at by local car retailers.

Unfortunately, your local car retailer may not be the best place to purchase a policy.

By comparing the prices offered by independent car warranty companies online, you may well find that you could be saving up to 50% on the cost of your policy.

The message is clear. If you want to save money then buy car warranties online.

Seized Car Auctions – ABC of Auctions For Seized Cars

Friday, June 6th, 2008

Seized car auctions are a huge bonus for those who know what they are in for, but to the uninitiated, it is not going to be a big deal for those. This is a place where you can find cars at more than 80% below the retail value. Private car owners visit these places to buy affordable used cars while used car dealers buy many of them and resell later for huge profits. Since such auctions take place all the time at different parts of the country, it is likely someone can find a great deal somewhere at one of these seized car auctions.

Before going to seized car auctions, you really need to prepare yourself well with some information. For a start, you need to know what kind of cars are you looking for and to be specific, what the car model is and which year of make. You also need to decide how much you are willing to spend and what is the maximum ceiling of your bids. All these are important questions to ask. While all seems good, you need to be mindful that some of these cars are left unattended. Another issue is that these vehicles are sold “As Is” and do not carry warranty at all, so there is a certain level of risk to take.

There are many car buyers who would search the Business-to-Business (B2B) yellow pages to locate seized car auctions everyday. However, in today’s environment, there is a shortcut to do so. The internet has seen the establishment of online sites that provide detailed and most up-to-date databases of these auctions. You can easily view information such as the state and location of the auction, the type of car model available and even pricings. Not only so, they often capture details about unadvertised auto auctions you do not find in the national and local newspapers.

One big complaint of many buyers are these auctioneers often rattle off so fast that most have difficulty understanding or grasping what they are saying. To avoid any mistake, it is wise to bring somebody who is experienced in car dealing with you. It can be a friend or a hired expert.

At the seized car auctions organized by the government, you can expect to receive a free Car Fax VIN report before you begin any bidding. There are probably thousands of clean titles, and some pretty low mileage vehicles of all models and makes. But do not rest on your laurels. Do an AutoCheck Vehicle History to find out if the car has been involved in any accidents or suffered from damages. Titles like “Rebuilt”, “Salvaged”, “Junked” and so on are indications that there are flaws.

It can be quite an awesome task to dig through tons of newspapers and local business directories just to find seized car auctions near your home. Fortunately, there are online services that have ready databases on hand that you can easily search in. Anyone keen on buying a seized car at deep discounts should check out my car blog and conduct a comprehensive and instant search for seized car auctions and the car details.
